What my Family is Eating Today

A CUBANYORKER TRIBE'S CRAVINGS

ABOUT

Meet La Chefa

I am a Cuban actress/filmmaker/food lover and cooking is my second first passion. Growing up, my mother used to have a restaurant in Cuba when it was still an illegal business. Naturally, my cooking career started there. Because of my fine sense of taste, being only a little girl, I became the unofficial Frijoles Negros (Black Beans) taster at my mom’s restaurant. It was such a happy time. I felt so important. Later, when I became older, I started helping her in the kitchen and I stayed there for a long period.

With time, my love for food grew bigger and became this kind of obsession. I spend most of my extra time in the kitchen or searching for new recipes. During the years living in New York I have been cooking a lot for my Cuban family, which is my biggest inspiration. They call me La Chefa, a cubanization/feminization for "Chef." So, do not mess with me. I also have worked as a chef for Umi Kitchen, a delivery app for home cooked meals and for some restaurant's kitchens around Park Slope and Windsor Terrace areas. It has been an incredible experience that I would love to share with anyone willing to create amazing flavors while reading every day stories about me and my family. My specialties are Cuban food (of course) and baking.

Ajo, cebolla, ají... and so it goes.
